Service

“I thank you for the service you provide in your wards and branches and in your stakes and districts. It is such service that enables the Lord to accomplish many of His purposes here upon the earth.” As We Gather Once Again By President Thomas S. Monson, April 2012

“I thank you for the service you so willingly give to one another. We are God’s hands here on this earth, with a mandate to love and to serve His children.”  Until We Meet Again Thomas S. Monson, October 2011

“Thank you for your faithful lives and dedicated service.” Relief Society: A Sacred Work Julie B. Beck, October 2009

“ Because we follow the example and teachings of Jesus Christ, we value this sacred assignment to love, know, serve, understand, teach, and minister in His behalf.” Relief Society: A Sacred Work Julie B. Beck, October 2009

“To you parents, express your love to your children. Pray for them that they may be able to withstand the evils of the world. Pray that they may grow in faith and testimony. Pray that they may pursue lives of goodness and of service to others.” Until We Meet Again Thomas S. Monson, April 2009

“As your humble servant, I desire with all my heart to do God’s will and to serve Him and to serve you.” Until We Meet Again Thomas S. Monson, April 2009

“Working together, we can alleviate suffering and provide for those in need. In addition to the service you give as you care for one another, your contributions to the funds of the Church enable us to respond almost immediately when disasters occur anywhere in the world. We are nearly always among the first on the scene to provide whatever assistance we can. We thank you for your generosity.” Until We Meet Again Thomas S. Monson, October 2008

“I love and appreciate my faithful counselors, President Henry B. Eyring and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf. They are truly men of wisdom and understanding, and their service is invaluable. I could not do all that I am called upon to do without their support and assistance. I love and admire my Brethren of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and all in the Quorums of the Seventy and in the Presiding Bishopric. They serve selflessly and effectively. I similarly express my appreciation for the women and men who serve as general auxiliary officers.” Till We Meet Again Thomas S. Monson, October 2008

“I express my love and appreciation for my devoted counselors, President Henry B. Eyring and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf. They are men of wisdom and understanding. Their service is invaluable. I love and support my Brethren of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. They serve most effectively, and they are completely dedicated to the work. I also express my love to the members of the Seventy and the Presiding Bishopric.” At Parting Thomas S. Monson, April 2011

“My brothers and sisters, temples are more than stone and mortar. They are filled with faith and fasting. They are built of trials and testimonies. They are sanctified by sacrifice and service.” The Holy Temple—a Beacon to the World Thomas S. Monson, April 2011

What we SHOULD and SHOULD NOT do

“We acknowledge that there are members who are less interested in and less faithful to some of the Savior’s teachings. Our desire is for these members to awaken fully to faith and increase their activity and commitment. God loves all His children. He wants all of them to return to Him. He desires everyone to be in tune with the sacred music of faith. The Savior’s Atonement is a gift for everyone.” Emphasis added, In Tune with the Music of Faith By Elder Quentin L. Cook April 2012

“Our great desire is to raise our children in truth and righteousness. One principle that will help us accomplish this is to avoid being overly judgmental about conduct that is foolish or unwise but not sinful. Many years ago, when my wife and I had children at home, Elder Dallin H. Oaks taught that it was important to distinguish between youthful mistakes which should be corrected and sins that require chastening and repentance.” In Tune with the Music of Faith By Elder Quentin L. Cook April 2012

“When we feel hurt, angry, or envious, it is quite easy to judge other people, often assigning dark motives to their actions in order to justify our own feelings of resentment.” The Merciful Obtain Mercy By President Dieter F. Uchtdorf April 2012

“When the Lord requires that we forgive all men, that includes forgiving ourselves. Sometimes, of all the people in the world, the one who is the hardest to forgive—as well as perhaps the one who is most in need of our forgiveness—is the person looking back at us in the mirror.” The Merciful Obtain Mercy By President Dieter F. Uchtdorf April 2012

“When it comes to hating, gossiping, ignoring, ridiculing, holding grudges, or wanting to cause harm, please apply the following: Stop it! The Merciful Obtain Mercy By President Dieter F. Uchtdorf April 2012

“We should refrain from anything that seems to be a final judgment of any person, manifesting our determination to leave final judgments to the Lord, who alone has the capacity to judge.” “Judge Not” and Judging  By Elder Dallin H. Oaks, August 1999

“why did the Savior command that we not judge final judgments? I believe this commandment was given because we presume to make final judgments whenever we proclaim that any particular person is going to hell (or to heaven) for a particular act or as of a particular time. When we do this—and there is great temptation to do so—we hurt ourselves and the person we pretend to judge.” “Judge Not” and Judging  By Elder Dallin H. Oaks, August 1999

“I can see many instances in which a slight change of course based on poor judgment would have led me far from where the Lord wanted me to be—decisions like having a family while obtaining an education, being active in all aspects of the gospel, paying tithes and offerings when income was severely limited, and accepting callings at difficult times, which helped me to understand more about sacrifice. Many blessings in life are missed because worldly judgment was applied to what was really a spiritual decision.” Developing Good Judgment and Not Judging Others Gregory A. Schwitzer , April 2010

“How should I speak so I can be like Jesus Christ? Speak kindly. Speak positively, including about yourself. Our words, like our actions, should be filled with faith and hope and charity. Never tell [others], even as a joke, that they are fat or dumb or lazy or ugly. Try not to complain.  When we say kind, encouraging things to the smallest child or the least popular person we know, we are saying these things to our Father in Heaven.” Special Witness: How should I speak so I can be like Jesus Christ? Jeffrey R. Holland Friend October 2008

“Let us not walk the path of discipleship with our eyes on the ground, thinking only of the tasks and obligations before us. Let us not walk unaware of the beauty of the glorious earthly and spiritual landscapes that surround us.” Forget Me Not Dieter F. Uchtdorf

word of wisdom

“…one keeps the Word of Wisdom knowing that obedience will not only bring freedom from addiction, but it will also add blessings of wisdom and treasures of knowledge.”  Face the Future with Faith byRussell M. Nelson, April 2011

“The Lord revealed to Joseph Smith a code of health, the Word of Wisdom, long before the dangers were known to the world. All are taught to avoid tea, coffee, liquor, tobacco, and of course varieties of drugs and addictive substances, which are ever present before our young people.” Guided by the Holy Spirit ,Boyd K. Packer, April 2011

“…clear evidence of the temporal blessings that come to those who obey the Word of Wisdom—in addition to the spiritual blessings that come immediately from obedience to any of God’s laws. Looking back, I know for sure that the promises of the Lord, if perhaps not always swift, are always certain.” Continue in Patience ,Dieter F. Uchtdorf, April 2010

“Consider the language of the Lord in the revelation known as the Word of Wisdom: “In consequence of evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days, I have warned you, and forewarn you, by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation”  Watching with All Perseverance,David A. Bednar, April 2010

“The instruction on being temperate in all things applies to each of us. What is temperance, and why would the Lord want us to be temperate? A narrow definition might be “exercising restraint when it comes to food and drink.” Indeed, this meaning of temperance could be a good prescription for keeping the Word of Wisdom.”  Being Temperate in All Things ,Kent D. Watson, October 2009

“Those blessings provide the resources we need to act rather than simply be acted upon as we go through life. For example, the Lord’s commandments in the Word of Wisdom regarding the care of our physical bodies bless us first and foremost with “wisdom and great treasures of knowledge, even hidden treasures” (D&C 89:19).”  The Power of Covenants Elder D. Todd Christofferson, April 2009

“I learned that you should always take care of your body. Take nothing into your body that will harm it, such as we are counseled in the Word of Wisdom: tea, coffee, liquor, tobacco, or anything else that is habit-forming, addictive, or harmful.” Counsel to Young Men President Boyd K. Packer, April 2009

“We learn to cultivate hope the same way we learn to walk, one step at a time. As we study the scriptures, speak with our Heavenly Father daily, commit to keep the commandments of God, like the Word of Wisdom, and to pay a full tithing, we attain hope.” The Infinite Power of Hope President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, October 2008

“Obeying the Word of Wisdom gave our members, especially our youth, a preventive inoculation against drug use and the resulting health problems and moral hazards. Unfortunately, there appears to be a resurgence of drug use in our own day. Living the Word of Wisdom today will free you from some of the most serious dangers you can face in this life.” Give Heed unto the Prophets’ Words Elder Quentin L. Cook, April 2008

“Though she knew it was contrary to the Word of Wisdom, she developed the habit of drinking coffee and kept a coffee pot on the back of her stove. She claimed that “the Lord will not keep me out of heaven for a little cup of coffee.” But, because of that little cup of coffee, she could not qualify for a temple recommend, and neither could those of her children who drank coffee with her. Though she lived to a good old age and did eventually qualify to reenter and serve in the temple, only one of her 10 children had a worthy temple marriage, and a great number of her posterity, which is now in its fifth generation, live outside of the blessings of the restored gospel she believed in and her forefathers sacrificed so much for.” Remembering, Repenting, and Changing Julie B. Beck, April 2007

Witnesses of the prophets

I couldn’t find political statements by living prophet that I liked  so I switched to Testimonies of the prophets.

“ I bear witness that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, that the plan of redemption, which has been called the plan of happiness, is a plan for families. I pray the Lord that the families of the Church will be blessed, parents and children, that this work will roll forth as the Father intends. I bear this witness in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.” And a Little Child Shall Lead Them ,By President Boyd K. Packer, April 2012

“I know that Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten Son of God the Eternal Father. I know that because of His atoning sacrifice, we have the assurance of immortality and the opportunity for eternal life. He is our Lord, our Savior, and our Redeemer, and I testify of Him in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.” Sacrifice ,By Elder Dallin H. Oaks April 2012

“I testify that God the Father lives and that His Beloved Son is our Redeemer. The Holy Ghost has confirmed truth in this conference and will again as you seek it, as you listen, and as you later study the messages of the Lord’s authorized servants, who are here. President Thomas S. Monson is the Lord’s prophet to the entire world. The Lord watches over you. God the Father lives. His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, is our Redeemer. His love is unfailing. I so testify in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.” Mountains to Climb By President Henry B. Eyring, April 2012

“I share my special witness that God so loves each one of us “that he gave his only begotten Son” to atone for our sins. He knows us and waits for us, even when we are a great way off. As we act on our desires and come to ourselves, we will be “encircled about eternally in the arms of his love” and welcomed home. I so testify in the holy name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, amen.” Coming to Ourselves: The Sacrament, the Temple, and Sacrifice in Service By Elder Robert D. Hales, April 2012

“I testify the holy priesthood indeed has been restored to the earth in these latter days and is found in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I also witness that President Thomas S. Monson is the presiding high priest over the high priesthood of the Church (see D&C 107:9, 22, 65–66, 91–92) and the only person upon the earth who both holds and is authorized to exercise all priesthood keys. Of these truths I solemnly testify in the sacred name of the Lord Jesus Christ, amen.” The Powers of Heaven By Elder David A. Bednar, April 2012

“I know that Jesus is the Christ and is our Savior. I testify that President Thomas S. Monson holds and exercises all the keys of the priesthood on the earth today. I love and sustain him. I love and pray for you. In the sacred name of Jesus Christ, amen.” Families under Covenant By President Henry B. Eyring, April 2012

“I testify that He lives, that Jesus is the Christ, and that this is His Church, restored in these latter days to accomplish its divine destiny. We are led today by President Thomas S. Monson, whom we love and sustain with all our hearts, as we also sustain his counselors and the Twelve Apostles as prophets, seers, and revelators. I so testify in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, amen.” Thanks Be to God By Elder Russell M. Nelson, April 2012

“As His special witness, I testify to you that He lives and that He awaits our triumphant return. That such a return will be ours, I pray humbly in His holy name—even Jesus Christ, our Savior and our Redeemer, amen.” The Race of Life By President Thomas S. Monson, April 2012

“I declare that Jesus is the Christ and that we can draw close to Him by reading the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. The first testaments of our Savior are the Old and New Testaments—or the Bible.” The Power of Deliverance By Elder L. Tom Perry, April 2012

“I bear witness that the resurrected Redeemer of mankind loves all of us, and He has promised if we will follow Him, He will lead us safely back into the presence of our Heavenly Father, of which I testify in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.” That the Lost May Be Found By Elder M. Russell Ballard, April 2012

Marriage

“There is nothing more important than honoring the marriage and family covenants you have made or will make in the temples of God.” Families under Covenant , By President Henry B. Eyring, April 2012

“Third, husbands and wives, you should be equal partners in your marriage. Read often and understand the proclamation on the family and follow it. Avoid unrighteous dominion in any form. No one owns a spouse or children; God is the Father of us all and has extended to us the privilege of our own family, which was previously only His, to help us become more like Him.” That the Lost May Be Found ,By Elder M. Russell Ballard, April 2012

“First, I give counsel to husbands and wives. Pray for the love which allows you to see the good in your companion. Pray for the love that makes weaknesses and mistakes seem small. Pray for the love to make your companion’s joy your own. Pray for the love to want to lessen the load and soften the sorrows of your companion.” Our Perfect Example , Henry B. Eyring, October 2009

“Be of one heart and of one mind in your marriage and in your family.” The Way of the Disciple, President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, April 2009

“The temple sealing has greater meaning as life unfolds. It will help you draw ever closer together and find greater joy and fulfillment.” The Eternal Blessings of Marriage, Richard G. Scott, April 2011

“If you have found someone, you can form an extraordinarily wonderful courtship and marriage and be very, very happy eternally by staying within the bounds of worthiness the Lord has established.” The Eternal Blessings of Marriage, Richard G. Scott, April 2011

“Pure love is an incomparable, potent power for good. Righteous love is the foundation of a successful marriage.” The Eternal Blessings of Marriage, Richard G. Scott, April 2011

“Marriage provides an ideal setting for overcoming any tendency to be selfish or self-centered. I think one of the reasons that we are counseled to get married early in life is to avoid developing inappropriate character traits that are hard to change.” The Eternal Blessings of Marriage, Richard G. Scott, April 2011

“The noblest yearning of the human heart is for a marriage that can endure beyond death. Fidelity to a temple marriage does that. It allows families to be together forever.” Celestial Marriage ,Elder Russell M. Nelson, October 2008

“Harmony in marriage comes only when one esteems the welfare of his or her spouse among the highest of priorities. When that really happens, a celestial marriage becomes a reality, bringing great joy in this life and in the life to come.” Celestial Marriage , Elder Russell M. Nelson, October 2008

Education

“Equally worrisome is the ever-growing gap between the rich and poor and between those who strive to preserve family values and commitments and those who have given up on doing so. Statistically, those who have less education and consequently lower incomes are less likely to marry and to go to church and much more likely to be involved in crime and to have children outside of marriage.” That the Lost May Be Found By Elder M. Russell Ballard , April 2012.
“For members of the Church, education is not merely a good idea—it’s a commandment.” Two Principles for Any Economy Dieter F. Uchtdorf , October 2009
“As a people, we rightfully place high priority on secular learning and vocational development. We want and we must excel in scholarship and craftsmanship. I commend you for striving diligently to gain an education and become an expert in your field. I invite you to also become experts in the doctrines of the gospel” Your Potential, Your Privilege Dieter F. Uchtdorf  April 2011
“Education is the key that will unlock the door of opportunity.” Let Virtue Garnish Thy Thoughts Unceasingly Gordon B. Hinckley, April 2007
“And even though you marry, education will be of great benefit to you. Don’t just drift along, letting the days come and go without improvement in your lives. The Lord will bless you as you make the effort. Your lives will be enriched and your outlook broadened as your minds are opened to new vistas and knowledge.” Let Virtue Garnish Thy Thoughts Unceasingly Gordon B. Hinckley, April 2007
“…parents are entrusted with the education of their children and, ultimately, parents must ensure that their children are being taught what their Heavenly Father would have them learn.” Mothers Teaching Children in the Home L. Tom Perry, April 2010
You face great challenges that lie ahead. You are moving into a world of fierce competition. You must get all of the education you can. The Lord has instructed us concerning the importance of education. It will qualify you for greater opportunities. It will equip you to do something worthwhile in the great world of opportunity that lies ahead.” Converts and Young Men Gordon B. Hinckley, April 1997
“While the formal classroom may be intimidating at times, some of the most effective teaching takes place other than in the chapel or the classroom.” To Learn, to Do, to Be President Thomas S. Monson, October 2008
“A mother’s education level has a profound influence on the educational choices of her [children].” … Educated women “tend to: Give birth to healthier babies, have children who are healthier, be more confident, resilient and have improved reasoning and judgment.” Mary N. Cook General Conference Is for You . May 2012
“Beyond our study of spiritual matters, secular learning is also essential. Often the future is unknown; therefore, it behooves us to prepare for uncertainties. Statistics reveal that at some time, because of the illness or death of a husband or because of economic necessity, you may find yourself in the role of financial provider. Some of you already occupy that role. I urge you to pursue your education—if you are not already doing so or have not done so—that you might be prepared to provide if circumstances necessitate such” Three Goals to Guide You Thomas S. Monson, October 2007

Pornography

“Pornography is especially dangerous and addictive. Curious exploration of pornography can become a controlling habit, leading to coarser material and to sexual transgression. Avoid pornography at all costs.”  Preparation Brings Blessings Thomas S. Monson, April 2010
“My beloved friends, under no circumstances allow yourselves to become trapped in the viewing of pornography, one of the most effective of Satan’s enticements. And if you have allowed yourself to become involved in this behavior, cease now. Seek the help you need to overcome and to change the direction of your life. Take the steps necessary to get back on the straight and narrow, and then stay there.” Until We Meet Again President Thomas S. Monson , April 2009
“Stay completely away from pornography. Do not allow yourself to view it, ever. It has proven to be an addiction which is more than difficult to overcome.” Priesthood Power Thomas S. Monson , April 2011
“It is ridiculous to imply that pornography has no effect. There is a definite relationship to crime. Murder, robbery, rape, prostitution, and commercialized vice are fed on this immorality. Sex statistics seem to reflect a relationship between crime and pornography.” God Will Not Be Mocked Spencer W. Kimball, October 1974
“Satan has become a master at using the addictive power of pornography to limit individual capacity to be led by the Spirit. The onslaught of pornography in all of its vicious, corroding, destructive forms has caused great grief, suffering, heartache, and destroyed marriages.” To Acquire Spiritual Guidance Richard G. Scott, October 2007
“Participation in pornography in any of its lurid forms is a manifestation of unbridled selfishness.” To Acquire Spiritual Guidance Richard G. Scott, October 2007
“Pornography will always repel the Spirit of Christ and will interrupt the communications between our Heavenly Father and His children and disrupt the tender relationship between husband and wife.” Cleansing the Inner Vessel Boyd K. Packer , October 2010
“We abhor pornography that seems to be flooding the land. Legislation makes an effort to curb it, but the best way to stop it is to have men and women, with their families, build barriers against it. We ask you, “Do you good people of your community want this ugly vice to corrupt your families and your neighbors?” “Why Call Me Lord, Lord, and Do Not the Things Which I Say?” Spencer W. Kimball, April 1975
“Pornography destroys character and makes its user sink in the quicksand of filth, out of which the person can escape only with much help.” Avoiding the Trap of Sin Jairo Mazzagardi, October 2010
“In our day the dreadful influence of pornography is like unto a plague sweeping across the world, infecting one here and one there, relentlessly trying to invade every home, most frequently through the husband and father. The effect of this plague can be, unfortunately often is, spiritually fatal.” Cleansing the Inner Vessel Boyd K. Packer , October 2010
